Qualifying the Existing Workforce
Free NVQ Level 2 Qualifications for the Construction Industry
The Qualifying the Existing Workforce project will access 1000 currently unqualified, experienced, employed construction workers to NVQ Level 2, helping to increase productivity and meet the industry’s skills challenge. The project is being delivered by CITB- Construction Skills NI in partnership with the Department for Employment and Learning (DEL) and the joint Council for the Building & Civil Engineering Industry.
What is involved?
The qualifications can be done with minimal time off site and involve no classroom based work – an assessor assesses your skills by observing your day-to-day work, or you can do a practical assessment, and you may also have to talk about your work experience and skills with an assessor.
Am I eligible?
The qualifications are available to all experienced, employed or self-employed construction workers and neither you nor your employer / company must be registered with CITB NI.
Will I get an Industry Registration Card?
No, you will get a certificate of completion relating to NVQ Level 2. Having a NVQ can help you obtain a card for an Industry Registration Scheme like CSCS or CSR.
Do I have to pay anything?
No – there is no cost for registration or for the assessment.
Why should I get a qualification?
For an individual: A qualification provides evidence of your skills and experience and could make you more employable locally, in GB or further afield.
For an employer: A qualified workforce shows that your company is working to a standard, it can improve performance and safety and may make winning work easier, especially if you are competing for work outside Northern Ireland.
